Back in the UK

I’m home and getting over jet lag slowly. People were incredibly helpful. I managed to do far more interviews than expected and have even got people willing to talk to my by Skype now. I can’t begin to think about the themes that have arisen from the research yet, but some of things chugging around in the back of my mind are about coping with old age so far from home, knowing where home is, the accepted use of ‘maids’ or help (which makes me thing about the ongoing formation of an expatriate habitus), and multiculturalism! Penang is so multicultural, I have never seen anywhere quite like it. Now I need to gather together some concrete examples of this. Lots to do….
