I have been teaching my third year undergraduate module, Communicating Sociology. This aims to develop a critical awareness of the significance of the dynamic nature of sociological practice in the social world by examining how sociological knowledge can be communicated to diverse audiences. I am really enjoying it. The students are really engaged, attending regularly, and keeping me on my toes with their questions.
We’ve been talking about the NS-SEC, Laurie Taylor, Lisa McKenzie, Michael Burawoy, Conversation Analysis in job-centre interviews, the 7Up! Films, Mitch Duneieir’s Sidewalk, Mass Observation.
Its very diverse, driven by the question: how is public sociology actually done?
